Get Answers to MCOA’s Most Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to do before making an eyecare appointment with MCOA?
First, check to make sure that MCOA accepts your medical insurance. Simply call us at 210.697.2020. We also will verify your insurance eligibility 24 hours before your appointment.

What do I need to bring to my first visit?
For your first visit to MCOA, bring your insurance card(s), your driver’s license, a list of all medications you’re currently taking, and your prescription(s) for glasses and/or contact lenses.

What will happen at my first appointment?
Please plan to be at our clinic for one to two hours. You’ll be directed to our kiosk machines to complete your personal and medical information forms. As mentioned above, remember to bring your insurance card(s) and driver’s license or state-issued ID card. Your appointment will begin by taking your vitals and a personal medical history. We will then perform any necessary examination, including leading-edge diagnostic tests to determine exactly what’s going on with your eyes and/or vision. Specific information on tests and treatments will be discussed with you and your doctor.

What should I do if I am unable to keep my appointment?
Please give us at least 24 hours of notice if you will be unable to make your appointment to avoid being charged a $50 cancellation fee.

Will I receive treatment for my eye problem at my first visit?
The first step for any eye-related concern — or any medical concern, for that matter — is medical evaluation. In other words: diagnosis. Some problems can be diagnosed during your first visit. Others may require additional testing during a subsequent visit. Only after a complete, accurate diagnosis is reached can we begin treating your eye problem. We also need to present your treatment options and plan your treatment carefully. So, while some treatments may be started during your first visit, it is more likely that treatment will begin after your first appointment.
